EARLY 18TH CENTURY
A QUEEN ANNE WALNUT AND BURR-WALNUT BUREAU-CABINET EARLY 18TH CENTURY Feather and crossbanded overall, the double-arched moulded cornice with ebonised urn-finials above a pair of shaped doors with moulded edge, each enclosing a bevelled later plate with star motif in a moulded frame, enclosing a fitted interior with a row of arched pidgeon-holes above a pair of concave arched doors, flanked by a pair of Doric columns with later finials and later bases, each incorporating three secret compartments, flanked by three divides above a pen-drawer, above a double row of drawers inset with two deep drawers, above a pair of candle-slides, the base section with a hinged fall front enclosing a fitted replaced interior with a gilt-tooled green leather writing-surface and a slide with a well below, with a central pair of panelled doors enclosing two pigeon-holes above a drawer, flanked by Doric pilasters, each incorporating a secret compartment, flanked by two pigeon-holes above a double row of concave drawers, above two short and two long drawers with replaced handles, on shaped bracket feet, the feet probably an eighteenth century replacement, originally with bun feet, the slide with a paper label inscribed 'OLD FAMILY PAPERS AND CHARTERS' 87¾ in. (223 cm.) high; 41½ in. (105 cm.) wide; 24 in. (61 cm.) deep
