SIGNED MUHAMMAD AL-HUSAYNI, IRAN, DATED AH 1287/1870-71 AD
A QAJAR ENAMELLED GOLD QALIAN BOWL SIGNED MUHAMMAD AL-HUSAYNI, IRAN, DATED AH 1287/1870-71 AD Of trumpet form, the surface decorated in polychrome enamels with two major and two minor polychrome figural portrait medallions, one of the larger medallions signed and dated and depicting a busy scene, probably from the story of Shaykh San'an and the Christian Maiden, the smaller medallions with couples caressing, the medallions set on a ground of scrolling flowering plants inhabited by birds, rectangular cartouches with verses in elegant nasta'liq , the rim with a band of green enamel and the base with a border of turquoise roundels, the underside of the base with a 19th century French gold import hallmark, minor damage to the enamel around the rim, the interior with dark purple enamel 2½in. (6.5cm.) high

A QAJAR ENAMELLED GOLD QALIAN BOWL SIGNED MUHAMMAD AL-HUSAYNI, IRAN, DATED AH 1287/1870-71 AD Of trumpet form, the surface decorated in polychrome enamels with two major and two minor polychrome figural portrait medallions, one of the larger medallions signed and dated and depicting a busy scene, probably from the story of Shaykh San'an and the Christian Maiden, the smaller medallions with couples caressing, the medallions set on a ground of scrolling flowering plants inhabited by birds, rectangular cartouches with verses in elegant nasta'liq , the rim with a band of green enamel and the base with a border of turquoise roundels, the underside of the base with a 19th century French gold import hallmark, minor damage to the enamel around the rim, the interior with dark purple enamel 2½in. (6.5cm.) high
