FADEN, William, publisher. SAUTHIER, Claude Joseph, cartographer. A Plan of the Operations of the King’s Army under the Command of General Sr. William Howe K.B. in New York and East New Jersey, against the American Forces Commanded by General Washington. From the 12th of October, to the 28th of November 1776. Wherein is particularly distinguished the Engagement on the White Plains, the 28th of October. London: W. Faden 25 February 1777.
One of the most important of Faden's magisterial series of large-format maps of the Revolutionary War battles, issued separately and in Faden's North American Atlas (London, 1777). It depicts an area running from Peekskill, Bear Mountain and the Croton River south to Fort Washington and the northern half of Manhattan; and from Bedford and Rye west to Totawa and Paramus, New Jersey. The engraved captions give particulars of various skirmishes, battles and lines of march, covering major military movements between 12 October to 28 November 1776, a period which included considerable offense actions by the British, culminating in the Battle of White Plains. Nebenzahl, Printed Battle Plans of the American Revolution, 101.
Engraved map, the Hudson, East River and Long Island Sound tinted pale tan, the complex troop movements and unit locations carefully colored in red for the British, blue for the Continental forces, 720 x 480mm sight size (a little faded and toned, touch of offsetting). Matted and framed (unexamined out of frame).
