Title page, two-page introduction and 50 star charts with accompanying tables. 24.8x27 cm (9¾x10½"). A celestial atlas from the age of modern photography. Published four years after his death, A Photographic Atlas of Selected Regions of The Milky Way brought to public consciousness the work of Edward Emerson Barnard (1857-1923). E.E. Barnard, Professor of Practical Astronomy at the University of Chicago, is credited for his work on the proper motion of the red dwarf star which would subsequently take his name and for his work on dark nebulae. A Photographic Atlas of Selected Regions of The Milky Way is a modern-era wonderbook, a personal planetarium in the library. Lot Amendments Condition: Light rubbing at extremities, a few minor scuffs; bump to textblock of Part I at lower right corner only slightly affecting some leaves and photographs; minor yellowing around edges of photographs, occasional light surface wear; very good or better.
