A PERCUSSION OVER-AND-UNDER RIFLED PISTOL-CARBINE BY JOHN BLISSETT, 321 HIGH HOLBORN, LONDON, MAKER TO H. R. H. THE DUKE OF SUSSEX Circa 1840 With heavy browned twist octagonal barrels engraved with bands of leaves around the muzzles and fitted with tubular bar for attaching the bayonet, each with multi-groove rifled bore, the upper barrel signed in full and with silver fore-sight and blued iron back-sight, engraved case-hardened breeches with platinum lines and plugs, engraved case-hardened upper breech tang, signed case-hardened back-action locks finely engraved with scrolls and fitted with blued sliding safety-catches, chequered figured walnut butt fitted with detachable shoulder-stock also of figured walnut, blued iron trigger-guard, escutcheon engraved with an elephant styled as a crest, original brass-tipped ramrod, and all-steel bayonet with triangular blade and blued handle, London proof marks (the iron and steel parts professionally refinished throughout, the shoulder-stock and bayonet each modern). 15 1/8 i n (38.4cm) (3)
