A PAIR OF SÈVRES PORCELAIN VASES ('VASE ÉTRUSQUE') Circa 1770 blue interlaced Ls mark, of inverted baluster outline with scroll and beaded handles terminating in bell flowers, the bleu nouveau ground with gilt ribbon tied oak garlands around an oval reserve painted in colours with quayside scenes with sailors, officers and shipping, the reverse with floral still lifes of roses and other flowers, attributed to Jean-Louis Morin; on gilt metal plinths. Height 30.5cm PROVENANCE: Private collection, Sydney OTHER NOTES: The Royal Collection has a pair of larger vases of the same design in the Music Room, Buckingham Palace, and another example with military scenes, (originally one of a pair) both purchased by George IV from the estate of his mother Queen Charlotte. Estimate $8,000-10,000 Condition: 1st (left): small chips to pendant laurel drops on each side, clear adhesion (possibly candlewax) to gilt bow above reserve, small spot of infill to right side of gilt bow above reserve, spot of infill to foreground of central reserve and two small spots on lower gilding, spot of infill to blue enamel at base above socle, tarnish and wear to ormolu base. 2nd (right): three very small chips to pendant laurel drop on right-hand side, repair to one of the beads above socle and possible repair wear socle joins body of vase, two chips to gilding on rim, ormolu base slightly tarnished and worn, small spot of infill to blue enamel on socle, small spot of infill to painting on reserve on leg of officer.
