A pair of rosewood, tulipwood and silvered pewter inlaid armchairs circa 1870, stamped Carl P. Svensson in the Renaissance revival style, the reverse side of each circular back inlaid with a silvered pewter arabesque medallion, framed with carved ebonised beadwork and a tulipwood moulding within a broad rosewood crossbanding inlaid with silvered pewter stringing and an outer crossbanded border with ebonised and acanthus leaf beadings and geometric stringing, the crestings in the form of a cluster of three medallions carved in boxwood with two flower head rosettes and an athemion to the front and conforming silvered pewter inlay to the reverse, the leather padded backs surrounded by a silvered pewter inlaid arabesque border incorporating athemion motifs and strapwork, the arms terminating in elaborately carved lion's masks with silvered metal garland rings, on conformingly inlaid X frame supports joined by a turned and leaf-carved stretcher with a central acanthus leaf-carved Indian mask to the front of each seat, the underside of each chair twice stamped in ink `Carl P.Svensson' overall 97cm. high, 64cm. wide, 53cm. deep; 3ft. 2in., 2ft. 1in., 1ft. 9in.
