A PAIR OF HISTORIC WOLF & KLAR ENGRAVED PRESENTATION .44 SMITH & WESSON HAND EJECTOR SECOND MODEL REVOLVERS, NUMBERS 38348 & 41766, CIRCA 1925, CARRIED BY TEXAS RANGER TOMMY COOK Presented to Texas Ranger Tommy Cook by Governor Miriam (MA) Ferguson Nickel plated, engraved with floral scrolls on barrels, frames, and cylinders, with relief carved mother-of-pearl grips with Steer Head motifs each overlaid with gold tips to horns, and gold nose-rings, fore-heads with gold panels engraved To Texas Ranger Cook from Gov. M. Fergurson (sic), the other TEXAS RANGER COOK over the Texas Star, No. 38348 with colour case-hardened hammer and trigger, No. 41766 with nickel-plated hammer and trigger, both with thier original single loop basketweave holster marked A.W. BRILL MAKER/AUSTIN, TX . With a documenting letter signed by Ethel Russel Cook on Fort Fisher letterhead dated February 14, 1977 discussing these Smith & Wesson revolvers. Signed by Ethel Russel Cook. The letter has a black & white image of Ranger Cook on horseback applied to the lower right corner. A "Firearm Registery Reciept" for No. 41766, dated Dec. 9, 1946, owner C.G. Alexander, the former Sheriff of McLennan County, Texas; and a signed notorised letter from C.G. Alexander noting that "serial number 41766 and serial number 38348 were presented to Texas Ranger Tom Cook, of Waco, Texas, by Governor Miriam Ferguson." Miriam Amanda (MA) Ferguson was the first woman elected governor of Texas. Serving as governor of Texas from 1925-1927 and again from 1933 to 1935, MA Ferguson was also the wife of James L. (Pa) Ferguson, who has served as govenor of Texas from 1915-17. "Pa" Ferguson, was also the first governor of Texas to be impeached. Despite his criminal past in the 1930s, Tommy Cook was appointed to serve in the State Militia that MA Ferguson established during her administration. It was at this time that the Governor presented these revovlers to Tommy Cook. In later years the revolvers came into the possession of Gaines de Graffenried in a swap for a registered white-face bull. (2)
