A PAIR OF GERMAN GREAVES AND SABATONS Probably circa 1520 For a 'Maximillian' armour, with tall plain greaves hinged on the outside, each with the forward plate drawn up to cover the knee, pierced for attaching a poleyn and with plain unturned edges, rear plate drawn out to form an exaggerated pointed heel pierced for attaching a spur, turned roped upper edge with later loop a poleyn strap and the heel fitted with a pivoted base plate, broad sabaton of nine lames, including toe-cap of flared and strongly rounded form decorated with four groups of flutes interrupted by raised cabled bands and fitted with a single narrow basal band on the inside (the internal leathers torn). 22¼ i n (56.5cm) (2)
