A pair of George V Sea Gallantry Medals to Able Seaman James Owen Sea Gallantry Medal in Silver with ribbon inscription on reverse For Gallantry For Saving Life At Sea, and Shipwrecked Fishermen And Mariners Royal Benevolent Society Medal in Silver with Dolphin Suspender and ribbon, on 6th February 1920 5000 Ton Sea Steamer The Bradboyne encountered very rough weather approx 500 miles NW of the Azores and made calls for assistant as the cargo had shifted and was in danger of sinking, call for help, The Steam ship Oxonian came to her aid, during the rescue in high and rough seas and at great risk of life Able Seaman James Owen to part in the rescue of the Bradboyne's crew, during the rescue crew from both vessels were lost, 13 men from the Bradboyne and 6 men from the Oxonian were lost at sea, Able Seaman James Owen was awarded both medals later in 1920
