A pair of George III sterling silver meat or poultry dishes, London 1772 by John Parker & Edward Wakelin Of lobed oval form, with gadrooned edge. Each engraved to the front with a crest of a lion’s head erased within a fetterlock, below an Earl’s coronet. Both fully marked to the reverse. One engraved 29, the other 33, each with scrarch weights 30=10. (2) Length – 37.2 cm / 14.75 inches Weight – 1842 grams/ 59.22 ozt The crest is for Wyndam Likely for George O’Brien Wyndham 3rd Earl of Egremont (1751 -1837) Earl’s of Egremont, created in 1749 for Algernon Seymour, 7th Duke of Somerset, 1st Earl of Egremont (1684-1750) thence to is nephew Charles Wyndham, 2nd Earl of Egremont (1710-1763) thence to his son George O’Brien Wyndham 3rd Earl of Egremont (1751 -1837) of Petworth House, Suussex (buit 1688) and Ergremont House, London (built in 1756-1761). The third Earl is the likey owner of these dishes, rather than his nephew George Francis Wyndham, 4th and last Earl of Egremont (1786 -1845).
