A pair of George III entree dishes, covers and handles maker's mark of John Parker and Edward Wakelin London, the dishes 1772, the covers 1776 Shaped-oval and with gadrooned borders, the fluted domed covers each with shell and scroll ring handle, the dishes each engraved with a coat-of-arms beneath a Baron's coronet, the covers each engraved with a coat-of-arms beneath an Earl's coronet, marked on dishes and covers, each engraved with inventory number and scratch weights, No.3 24=4, No.3 20=17, No.4 20=15, No.4 23=5 12in. (30.5cm.) long 85ozs. (2,655grs.) The arms on the dishes are those of Stanley quartering others for Edward Stanley, (1752-1834) as Baron Stanley, later 12th Earl of Derby. The arms on the covers are those of Stanley quartering others impaling Hamilton quartering Arran and Douglas for Edward Stanley, as 12th Earl of Derby and his wife Elizabeth (d.1797) only daughter of James, 6th Duke of Hamilton and Brandon K.T. (d.1758.). Lord Derby succeeded to the title in 1776 on the death of his grandfather. (2)
