Beschreibung:

A pair of George II carved walnut library armchairs, mid-18th century
the shaped padded backs, seats and armrests covered in close-nail striped and floral patterned silk damask upholstery, the armrests terminating in outswept scrolled acanthus on shaped uprights, with cabriole legs carved with acanthus ears and c-scroll knees, on claw-and-ball feet, with outswept square back legs and club feetCondition reportOn a relatively diminutive scale for a library armchair. Overall in good restored condition, the upholstery in good order and high quality. The frame of good colour and patination. Typical old marks, scuffs and scratches throughout, and there is a chipped loss to the rear leg of one, which is possibly as a result of a natural flaw in the timber. One ear to front leg possibly replaced. Some splits and separations to rear feet, but note that the frames of each are sound and sturdy. The seat rails not inspected. An interesting walnut variation on a mahogany archetype.
