A PAIR OF DERBY (DUESBURY & KEAN) ORANGE-GROUND SNAKE-HANDLED VASES CIRCA 1810, IRON-RED CROWN, CROSSED BATONS AND D MARKS Each shield shape with flaring mouth and sloping shoulder, on trumpet foot and further square base, gilt snakes entwined at the shoulder to form upright loop handles, the mouth of one biting the tail of the other, the neck and socle reserved and gilt on the orange ground with spiraling shaded leaves, the shoulder and body gilt on the orange ground with foliate scrolls and pendant garlands, finely painted front and back with lush tight bouquets of spring flowers reserved within a burnished gilt medallions, the top of the base gilt with stylized tulip blossoms, the sides reserved and shaded in black with Greek Key pattern on a salmon ground 14 in.
