A PAIR OF 18-BORE FRENCH FLINTLOCK CARRIAGE PISTOLS BY PIERRE LE PAGE, PARIS, CIRCA 1760 With three-stage barrels octagonal then polygonal at the breech, and with gilt mouldings at the intersection and muzzle (gilding worn), signed in gold and retaining much of their gilt decoration and traces of the original blued finish, silver fore-sights and gilt touch-holes, the underside of each breech stamped with two fleur-de-lys marks and with barrelsmith's mark of Jean Leclerc of Paris, engraved tangs, signed border engraved flat bevelled locks engraved with differing martial trophies on the stepped tails (one cock apparently an old replacement and with later top jaw and screw), moulded figured walnut full stocks (minor chips, one fore-end tip cracked) finely carved in relief with palm branches, flowers and foliage, iron mounts finely engraved with martial trophies, flat flush-fitting side-plates engraved with rococo ornament, spurred pommels each with oval cap engraved with a bursting grenade, and original ramrods each with iron-capped horn tip 13¾in.
