These include the significant Louisiana (Wheat 259), British Possessions in America (Wheat 260), Spanish Dominions in North America (Wheat 261) and North America (Wheat 262) - about which Wheat says collectively "When considered together the four afford a remarkably clear epitome of the knowledge of the West at the moment when Meriwhether Lewis and William Clark were poised for the take-off of their history-making expedition." Large and elegant contemporary ink ownership signature of Silas Walsworth on front endpaper verso facing the title-page, with ink note on its recto "This was the text book wh[ich] my father used when a boy in his geographical studies & was given by him to me in the year 1842. Edward B. Walsworth." The date 1810 is inkstamped below this latter inscription, evidently by Edward's father. Provenance: John Howell-Books, 5/72 Reference: P-LG 708.
