A MONUMENTAL ANDALUCIAN CAST AND ENGRAVED BRONZE MULTIPLE-WICK OIL LAMP SOUTH SPAIN, 11TH CENTURY The oil reservoir of circular form with six spouts for wicks, formed in pairs sightly bending towards each other, the pairs flanking three realistically modelled bulls' heads, the hinged domed cover with cockerel finial, the underside of the reservoir finely engraved with scrolling vine around three bird roundels on a hatched ground filled with black composition, the pierced telescopic shaft with interlaced openwork arabesques, a rounded boss above engraved with a band of meandering leafy vine, a baluster boss below with a bold kufic inscription and trailing leafy vine in reserve on a ground of black deposit, on shallow domed base with flat rim resting on three animal feet, the base similarly engraved with dense arabesque interlace and inlaid with black deposit, old repairs to one foot, upper boss, cover hinge and cockerel's tail 68in. (168cm.) high; extended 82.5in.(210cm.) high
