Straight 31 inch double edged blade with central fuller and 19 inch panel etched and engraved with scrolling florals and oak branches, one side with panoply of arms and Federal eagle, the other with stand of American flags and engraved at the base Ames Mfg. Co./Chicopee/Mass. Gilt brass hilt, the spread eagle guard with shell-form finials and linked to the helmet pommel by a chain guard. Reeded bone grip. Gilt brass three-ring scabbard, the front engraved with leafage at the suspension rings, the reverse with Ames markings. Condition: Clean blade showing minor light spotting. Hilt and scabbard retain most gilt finish, the scabbard with several dents. See Illustration
