Benjamin Gray London The inverted bell top with typical handle over a boldly moulded cornice and long glazed arched rectangular side panels framed by a moulded edge, on a moulded base and block feet, the 6 inch arched brass dial signed on an oval plaque in the arch, framed by scroll mounts and a pair of subsidiary dials for rise-and-fall regulation (marked in 5s to 40), and strike/silent, the Roman and Arabic chapter ring with original pierced steel hands and finely matted centre with chamfered date and mock pendulum apertures below XII, the triple gut (now wire) fusee movement united by six knopped pillars, now with anchor escapement and rack strike for the hours on a bell, the quarters struck on a run of five nested bells and hammers, the backplate signed centrally within a series of engraved foliate scrolls within a single line border. 43cms (17ins) high
