A MEISSEN YELLOW-GROUND BARREL AND A COVER ON A MEISSEN ARMORIAL TRIANGULAR BASE MADE FOR COUNT BRUHL CIRCA 1740, BLUE CROSSED SWORDS MARK TO BASE OF STAND The barrel moulded and gilt with ribs between the ground reserved with eight quatrefoil panels painted with harbour scenes, the ends painted with quaysides with figures among barrels and packages and before buildings within gilt circular panels with gilt scrolling foliage borders, one end mounted with a gilt-metal tap, the cover formed as a Bacchic putto with fruiting vine about his waist and head and holding up a bunch of grapes, the triangular shaped base on three scroll-moulded feet applied with scantily draped figures with striped drapery, the front moulded with a cartouche painted with the coat of arms of Count Brühl and his wife Franziska von Kolowrat-Krakowska , on a ground of gilt scrolling foliage, the sides painted in purpurmalerei with figures, dancing and drinking in landscape vignettes (very minor wear to gilding on barrel, restoration to putto, the base with restoration to legs and feet of figures, one leg broken and restuck, restoration to top suface and one side, crack to base) 15 in.
