A MEISSEN GOLD-MOUNTED CIRCULAR SNUFF-BOX CIRCA 1750, THE MOUNTS CONTEMPORARY The exterior moulded and decorated in purple and gilt with an Oriental fretwork pattern, the cover interior finely stippled, perhaps by Johann Jacob Wagner , with Andromeda scantily clad and chained to a cliff on the right, a sea monster emerging from waves on the left, Perseus in flight above in winged sandals and holding a shield with Medusa's head and a spear, poised to rescue her (exterior with minute areas of wear) 3 1/8 in. (8.1 cm.) diam.
