A Maghribi Qur'an, in Arabic, decorated manuscript on paper [North Africa (probably Morocco), dated 1203 AH (1788/89 AD)] 288 leaves, apparently complete, single column, 14 line of brown maghribi, surah headings in yellow and catchwords in green, first leaf with yellow border around opening text, leaves double-ruled in pink, leaves a little darkened, some scattered spotting, leaves trimmed, 145 by 130mm (written space 115 by 107mm), later leather over pasteboards with flap, blind-stamped with small circular devices and ruled, hinges and spine ends crudely repaired with later leather, reswen with modern pastedowns and flyleaves A charming Maghribi Qur'an in the traditional North-African 'square' format. The date of production is provided in the final colophon as '1203' using western numerals to provide a Hijri date, bearing witness to cross-cultural interactions between the Western and Islamic worlds in Morocco and Andalusia in the eighteenth century.
