A LOUIS XVI THREE-COLOUR GOLD SEALING-WAX CASE AND A LOUIS XVI GOLD-MOUNTED CARNET-DE-BAL by Étienne-Pierre Rousselet (fl. 1788-1821), marked, Paris, 1788/1789, with the charge and discharge marks of Jean-François-Kalendrin 1789-1792, later struck with the census mark for the South Division 1819-1838, the carnet-de-bal by Pierre-Denis Chaumont (fl. 1777-1793), marked, with the second charge and discharge marks of Henry Clavel 1782-1789 Slightly tapering étui-à-cire of oval section, both sides of cover and base with rectangular panels of horizontal engine-turning scattered with pellets and flowerheads and centred by oval reserves chased in two-colour gold with trophies of music and love on a frosted ground, divided by vertical matted gold bands embellished with scrolls, beads and foliage, the horizontal borders similarly decorated, the slighly domed gold cover centred by a foliate rosette in a frosted ovolo, the polished matrix engraved with monogram 'OMB'; together with an ivory carnet-de-bal set with miniatures: slightly tapering rectangular étui of flattened oblong section, the obverse and reverse of the cover applied with pierced gold inscription ' SOUVENIR D'AMITIE ' within pierced scroll borders with bow cresting, one side set with an oval miniature of a young boy in brown coat holding a posy of flowers, with a foliate gold border, the other side with a similarly framed sepia miniature depicting an allegory of love and friendship 4 13/16 in. (123 mm.) long; 3 5/16 in. (84 mm.) high, respectively 1¼ oz. (38 gr.) (2)
