A late Victorian gilt brass mounted and inlaid rosewood quarter chiming bracket clock Retailed by Cloud and Shapland, London, late 19th century The four pillar triple chain fusee movement with spotted backplate and anchor escapement regulated by lenticular bob pendulum incorporating rise/fall regulation to suspension, chiming a choice of two melodies for the quarters on a nest of eight graduated bells and striking the hour on a gong, the 8.25 inch gilt brass break-arch dial with matted centre within applied silvered Roman numeral chapter ring with stylised fleur-de-lys half hour markers and Arabic five minutes to outer track, the angles with foliate festoon and scroll cast spandrels beneath arch applied with subsidiary FAST/SLOW dial above further CHIME/SILENT and WESTMINSTER/CHIME ON EIGHT BELLS selection dials within conforming cast mounts and incorporating silvered plaque engraved CLOUD & SHAPLAND, 207 HIGH HOLBORN, LONDON to lower margin, the break-arch case with gilt urn finials to the stepped upstand over brass foliate scroll inlaid tympanum and arch-glazed rectangular front door enclosing canted silvered brass dial surround and with conforming brass inlay to upper quadrants over line bordered rails flanked by reeded gilt Corinthian columns to front angles, the sides with arched cast brass sound frets each decorated with mask centred sunburst, the rear with brass grille inset rectangular door, on stepped inverted breakfronted base with fluted frieze to apron over cushion moulded line inlaid skirt and large gilt lobed bun feet, 68cm (26.75ins) high excluding top finial.
