A LATE GEORGE II RED AND GILT-JAPANNED QUARTER CHIMING TABLE CLOCK MARKWICK MARKHAM LONDON, MADE FOR THE TURKISH MARKET, CIRCA 1760 The arched brass dial with pierced foliate spandrels to silvered Turkish chapter, matted center with mock pendulum aperture, date aperture and signed on a recessed plaque 'Markwick Markham London', with silvered strike silent ring in the arch, the eight day three train movement with six knopped pillars, triple fusees with verge escapement, quarter chimes on eight bells and hour strike on further bell, the foliate-engraved backplate signed 'Markwick Markham London', the bell top case with brass handle to the top and four urn finials, decorated with Chinoiserie figures and scenes, with glazed sides and above a wavy apron with bracket feet; pendulum, winding key, case key 21½ in. (55 cm.) high, handle down, 13½ in. (34 cm.) wide, 8½ in. (21.5 cm.) deep
