A Lacquer Writing Box ( Suzuribako ) Edo period (19th century), Iizuka Toyo (1725?-1790), signed Toyo and with kao Decorated on the cover in silver and gold takamaki-e with a tethered ox against a red lacquer ground continued on the exterior walls, the base nashiji , the interior lid lacquered in gold, silver and black togidashi with chestnuts on a silver ground continued on the interior of the box; fitted with a rectangular inkstone and gourd-form waterdropper of metal chased with a gourd vine 9 x 6½ x 1¾in. (22.7 x 15.5 x 4.2cm.)
