A KULA PRAYER RUG WEST ANATOLIA, FIRST HALF 19TH CENTURY The indigo prayer panel with a central floral column issuing stellar flowerherads, floral frame, on a light blue arched field with diagonal rows of small floral motifs, a latticed cross-panel above, in a multiple brown and white striped border containing small floral motifs between sandy yellow meandering floral and outer zigzag stripes, even wear, replaced selvages, some repair and losses to outer small guard stripe Approximately 5ft.10in. x 3ft.9in. (178cm. x 114cm.) Warp: white wool Z2S, depressed, sometimes strongly undulating Weft: for the most part 2 or occasionally 3 shoots ochre, yellow, light brown or ivory wool, Z1, one (and three) undulating, the other more so; at times a single shoot of unplied Z2-3 wool similarly coloured Pile: wool Z1, symmetrical inclining to the left, H2.6 x V3.7/cm. Sides: main weft bound flatwoven around two additional wefts, additional flatweave binding over the two extra warps and the outermost knotted warp in green-blue, blue and ivory wool Z2S Remarks: lazy lines, row and weft adjustments
