A KUFIC QUR'AN FOLIO NEAR EAST OR NORTH AFRICA, 10TH CENTURY Qur'an LXXIV, sura al-muddathir , v.54 - Qur'an LXXV, sura al-qiyamah , middle of v.13, Arabic manuscript on vellum, verso with 5ll. of elegant kufic , diacritics marked with red and green roundels, gold and polychrome verse roundels and a large 'ashr medallion in the margin in gold and blue, recto with 4ll. of kufic and a large sura heading in rounded bold gold kufic outlined in copper-coloured pigment and set on a ground of scrolling vine, the heading issuing a large marginal cusped palmette in gold fitted with geometric and vegetal patterns in black and copper ink, outlined with a band of blue strapwork, mounted Folio 10½ x 16in. (26.7 x 40.8cm.)
