Furlong was a Volunteer in the 1916 Rising and was interned in Frongoch. Released in 1917 he later served during the War of Independ... dence and was captured and interned at Ballykinler in 1921. He was a Staff Captain in the Dublin Guards, Irish National Army, during the Civil War and was shot in an attack by anti Treaty forces in Roscrea on 13 October and died from his wounds on 15 October 1922.
