A Group of Boer War Mementoes A clay pipe, the bowl in the form of the head of Lord Kitchener (lacking stem); a tie-pin attached to a humorous brooch in the form of a multi-coloured label inscribed 'Free Pass for Ex-President Kruger Pretoria to St. Helena... This ticket is issued on condition not to return again with the Exception by Order of British Empire', and stamped '1900'; a two-blade penknife with embossed sides, one bearing the Arms and Mottoes of the Transvaal and Orange Free State, the other depicting Kruger and De Wet; a small silver locket (Hallmarked Birmingham, 1901), the front mounted with an escutcheon inscribed, 'South Africa'; a small calico bag with string fastening, inscribed, 'Morris's Real Boer Tobacco' (a warning on the reverse states: 'Boer Tobacco is somewhat of an acquired taste and it is only after smoking three or four pipefuls that the unique characteristics of the Boer Tobacco are realised'); an un-named brass bed-plate of the Argyll & Sutherland Highlanders, with embossed device as for collar-badge; and an 8 page folded leaflet, 2in. by 3in.(6cm. by 8cm.) printed in copperplate script with the words of "The Absent-Minded Beggar" (7)
