A group of 59 large-format film negatives, 1939, relating to the visit of RMS Viceroy of India on its cruise to the South Atlantic, where she became the first P&O liner to visit the island of Tristan da Cunha, including pictures of islanders and families, unloading of provisions, scenes and buildings including post office, storehouse and church, all but 12 captioned and numbered in the negative and all housed in manilla paper packets with negative numbers (4701-4759) and brief captions in blue pencil, negatives 11 x 15.5cm An important and historic archive relating to the first visit of a cruise ship to the island of Tristan da Cunha. The large-format size of the negatives would allow for very large prints to be produced from these negatives. A group of 55 small prints (10.5 x 15.5cm) previously made from the negatives are included with the lot. (59)
