Pelling, King’s Royal Rifle Corps, late Regimental Sergeant-Major, 3rd Battalion, The Rifle Brigade Military Cross, G.V.R., unnamed as issued; Queen’s South Africa 1899-1902, 4 clasps, Orange Free State, Transvaal, South Africa 1901, South Africa 1902 (3915 Serjt: R. Pelling. Rifle Brigade.); 1914 Star, with clasp (3915 R.S. Mjr. W. Pelling. 3/Rif: Brig.); British War and Victory Medals (Q.M. & Lieut. W. H. Pelling.); Army L.S. & G.C., G.V.R., 1st issue (3915 S. Mjr: W. H. Pelling. Rif: Bde:); Meritorious Service Medal, G.VI.R., 2nd issue (3915 W.O. Cl.1. W. H. Pelling (M.C.) R.B.); Special Constabulary Medal, G.V.R., 1st issue (William Pelling) mounted as worn, toned, very fine or better (8) £1,200-£1,400 Footnote M.C. London Gazette 1 January 1917. W. H. Pelling attested for the Rifle Brigade and served with them in South Africa during the Boer War, and as Regimental Sergeant Major during the Great War on the Western Front. He was awarded the Military Cross whilst serving as R.S.M. of the 3rd Battalion in the 1917 New Year’s Honours’ List, and was subsequently commissioned Lieutenant (Quartermaster) in the King’s Royal Rifle Corps on 18 June 1918.
