A Great War M.M. group of four awarded to Corporal A. C. Pearce, Royal Engineers Military Medal, G.V.R. (57336 Cpl., 37/Sig, Coy. R.E.); 1914-15 Star (57336 L-Cpl., R.E.); British War and Victory Medals (57336 Cpl., R.E.) good very fine (4) £280-320 Footnote M.M. London Gazette 6 July 1917. Arthur Charles Pearce was born c.1881. From 1910 was employed by Croydon Corporation Tramways as a Power Linesman. He enlisted into the Royal Engineers in November 1914 and entered the France/Flanders theatre of war on 29 July 1915. Awarded the M.M. for bravery in the field at Monchy le Preux, Arras in April 1917. Was discharged due to sickness on 29 January 1919 and awarded the Silver War Badge (not with lot). He was presented with his M.M. on 13 May 1918 at a Croydon Borough Council Meeting - this recorded in The Croydon Advertiser and Surrey County Reporter, 18 May 1918. Arthur Charles Pearce died at 1 Alma Place, Croydon on 5 April 1919, the cause being bronchitis and endocarditis. With copied research including newspaper extracts, m.i.c., roll extracts and death certificate.
