FLINTLOCK SPORTING GUN in the Parisian manner, with sighted barrels retaining faint traces of original blue, signed in gold on the rib and inscribed 'Cn Tordu', the gilt breeches each punched with rococo ornament, flowers and a sporting trophy, the muzzles with gilt lines and punched and gilt foliage around the silver fore-sight, grooved tang engraved with rococo ornament against a gilt fishroe ground, signed engraved and gilt flat bevelled locks, cocks and steels en suite, figured walnut half-stock (broken through in front of the locks) carved in relief with rococo ornament, flowerheads and foliage, cheek-piece, steel mounts engraved with rococo ornament, flowerheads and foliage against a gilt fishroe ground, the scroll trigger-guard with urn finial, vacant silver escutcheon chased with rococo ornament, and original baleen ramrod with turned steel tip (surface rust overall, sling mounts missing), by Jean Sebastien May, Manheime ( sic ), circa 1780 36¾in. barrels
