Circa 1770 The ebony and fruitwood chequer-strung and cross-banded case with double skirt to the plinth, concave moulding beneath the breakarch trunk door, the hood with detached brass-capped reeded columns, dial signed Edward Robinson London on a silvered plaque in the matted centre with seconds ring and calendar aperture, pierced steel hands, silvered chapter ring with lozenge half hour markers, urn-and-eagle spandrels, strike/silent ring in the arch flanked by dolphin spandrels, the movement with four pillars (the fifth now removed), anchor escapement and rack strike on a bell 7ft. 5in. (227cm.) high
