Beschreibung:

A George III mahogany library table circa 1760, attributed to Thomas Chippendale the rectangular top enclosed by a pair of cleated hinged panels folding to rest against the sides, the interior of the top retaining the original baize lining, centred by a ratchet supported reading flap with a detachable mahogany ledge secured by brass pins, the front frieze to the top with a shaped fall flap above the kneehole surrounded by nine drawers fitted with the original brass swan-neck handles, the kneehole with a solid mahogany panel retained by grooves in the pedestals, the reverse side with a pair of panelled cupboard doors enclosing twelve pigeonholes with boxwood alphabetical labels, on one side and cupid's bow folio divisions to the other, on a moulded plinth with brass `triple wheel' castors, the top of one of the pedestals bearing the chalk inscription `Selons' overall dimensions, 94cm. high, 141cm. wide, 91cm. deep; 3ft. 1in., 4ft. 7¾ in., 2ft. 11¾ in.
