A Fine Zuni Polychrome Jar circa 1865, with concave base, compressed globular body and an encircling groove beneath the flaring rim, very finely painted in sienna and dark brown against a chalky white slip, with a series of spiraling medallions, possibly representations of "rainbirds," two surmounted by pairs of birds, each with backswept wings and exaggerated tailfeathers, additionally decorated with foliate and cross-hatching, the neck with a scalloped band. height 8 3/4 in. by diameter 12 in.
