BY REEVES, TOLEDO WORKS, BIRMINGHAM, BIRMINGHAM SILVER HALLMARKS FOR 1860
A FINE SILVER-MOUNTED PRESENTATION RIFLE BRIGADE VOLUNTEER OFFICER'S SWORD OF THE STAFFORDSHIRE RIFLE VOLUNTEERS BY REEVES, TOLEDO WORKS, BIRMINGHAM, BIRMINGHAM SILVER HALLMARKS FOR 1860 With single-edged fullered blade with false back-edge towards the tip and finely etched on each side for most of its length with foliage and scrollwork surrounding various devices including the Royal arms and cypher on one side and the presentation inscription on the other, finely pierced and engraved silver guard inscribed 'STAFFORDSHIRE RIFLE VOLUNTEERS' on ribbons and decorated with a further 'VR' cypher, a Rifle Brigade bugle, Stafford Knot and crest all surrounded by oak leaves and acorns, chequered hard-rubber grip bound with silver wire, and silver pommel in the form of a leopard's head, in original silver scabbard hallmarked en suite with the sword, silversmith's mark SH 32¼in. (81.9cm.) blade
