A FINE SILVER-GILT-MOUNTED PRESENTATION SWORD BY HENRY WILKINSON PALL MALL, LONDON, SERIAL NO. 38233, LONDON SILVER HALLMARKS FOR 1900 With bright 31 ½ in. (80 cm.) etched blade bearing the presentation inscription 'PRESENTED TO LIEUT. GENERAL R.S.S. BADEN-POWELL, D.S.O., BY THE CITIZENS OF GRAHAMSTOWN IN RECOGNITION OF HIS SPLENDID SERVICES AT THE SIEGE OF MAFEKING DURING A PERIOD OF 230 DAYS, JUNE 1900', ivory grip-scales, silver-gilt mounts including guard with enamelled 'BP' monogram on the outer side and General officer's badge on the inner side, lion's head pommel, and bullion sword knot, in original velvet-covered scabbard with pierced silver-gilt mounts ornamented with an enamelled coat of arms of Grahamstown, an enamelled Distinguished Service Order, and engraved with the Baden-Powell arms, battle honours 'ASHANTI / MATABELE / 1886', the dedication 'GRAHAMSTOWN / LIEUT. COLONEL / A.E. NELSON / MAYOR', and a trophy of arms bearing the legend 'MAFEKING'
