A FINE SILVER AND FILIGREE CHANUKKAH LAMP OF THE "BA'AL SHEM TOV" TYPE Apparently no maker's mark, Zhitomir assayer's office mark for the year 1856 and assayer initials B.M for: Malyschew, Wsewolod Nikolajewitsch and silver mark 84; City mark for Zhitomir between 1823-1857 also once struck with later city mark Zhitomir circa 1875 The arched rectangular backplate applied with fine filigree foliate ornaments, the two tapering filigree pillars, each topped by a bird, the centre with an applied crown with a spread eagle finial, the integral sidepanels fitted with very delicate filigree scrolled foliate branches, the front fitted by eight jug-form oil receptacles, on a diamond patterned floor, the reverse of backplate also engraved with chequered pattern, set on six S-scroll supports, the sides fitted with two matching scrolled candleholders as servant lights 25cm. high marked on lower, upper part and reverse of backplate, two applied pillars, on each of the eight oil containers and the base underneath, on scroll support, on the two detachable servant lights and on the two wax guards 794gr.
