A FINE QAJAR QUR'AN IRAN, EARLY 19TH CENTURY Arabic manuscript on paper, 307ff. plus four fly-leaves, each folio with 14ll. of elegant black naskh script between gold clouds, with gold and polychrome roundel verse markers, sura headings in white thuluth script on gold ground within gold and polychrome illuminated cartouches, text within double blue and black-ruled gold frame, with marginal section markers in red thuluth script within illuminated medallions on gold ground, sura title indicated in the top corner of each page within a floral medallion on gold ground, the margins with further black-ruled gold frame, with marginal Persian commentary in black shikasteh script arranged in medallions with gold clouds and polychrome highlights, the opening bifolio with text panels of 6ll. of text bordered with heavily illuminated headpieces and margins, preceded with four bifolios of tables and prayers, each heavily illuminated in gold, silver and polychrome, the penultimate and final bifolios similarly illuminated, in lacquered binding with floral and calligraphic decoration on speckled ground, the doublures with gilt floral decoration, the illumination slightly rubbed in places, restored binding, otherwise in very good condition Text panel 5 5/8 x 2 7/8in.
