Circa 1690 The black velvet-covered dial applied with a gilt foliate cast chapter discs with inset Roman enamel cartouche chapters, the outer concentric ring engraved with each Arabic minute, delicate blued steel hands, the ormolu mount below cast with the figures of Diana and Apollo within formal scrolling foliage and centred by a mercurial mask, the triple going barrel movement with massive brass rectangular plates secured by six large vase-shaped back-pinned pillars, later anchor escapement, the hours and quarters struck on bells above the movement via facetted steel arbors, the backplate signed Louis Baronneau AParis , the elaborate red tortoiseshell case inlaid with brass and pewter foliage to the front and to the glazed sides, the out-set columns with Corinthian capitals and mother-of-pearl, brass and ebony inlaid columns on rectangular pedestals with ebony mouldings, the similarly inlaid detachable top with balustraded cornice and surmounted by eight flambeau urn finials 21¾ in. (55 cm.) high
