A fine late 18th/early 19th-Century shagreen-bound and ivory-mounted monocular, signed on the draw-tube WATKINS LONDON , in a leatherette-covered case, the objective lens -- 3.8cm. (1½in.) diameter ; the case -- 8.2cm. (3¼in.) high See Colour Illustration and Detail The objective lens is held in place by a brass retaining ring within a stained ivory mount. The pasteboard body-tube is bound in green shagreen, with a second stained ivory band at the opposite end. The draw-tube is bound in silver-tooled red Morocco leather, with a stained ivory mount for the eyepiece lens. The cylindrical wooden case is secured by a sprung catch and is bound in red leatherette, with cream silk in the lid.
