circa 1879, Ser. No. 18121, Gam. No. 890, with single-spring motor, single-section comb on reeded cast gilt bedplate, crested Bremond tunesheet, playing eight dance and operatic airs, left-hand controls including override for weight-balance start to the 2-train timepiece with open-back movement striking on a bell, plain white enamel dial with Roman numerals and chapter ring in black, delicate brequet hands, oval black and gilt retailer's transfer for Van Gruise*, Liverpool in finely carved oak case in the familiar Black Forest taste, the lid top with a pair of pheasants about to dual before fern and leaf-clad tree stump, on richly textured and naturalistic stoney ground, over-laid acanthus leaf frieze edge with canted corner profile, the sides including endflap with dashound head handles, on incised leaf ground, the dial to the front surmounted by dog fox and flying duck carving, shaped plinth base with moulded edge - 25.1/2in. (65cm) wide, 13.1/2in. (36cm) high, the cylinder 13in. (33cm)
