A fine handspun late 18th century Turkish cloth, embroidered with silk polychrome silk and metallic thread border together with a collection of later towels and cross stitch textiles Estimate £200-500 The muslin backing has extensive damage where it has pulled away from the heavier metal embroidery. One border has been extensively darned. The interior un-embroidered centre of the cloth has darns and holes. The embroidery and metal edging are still strong, undamaged and in good colour. The muslin is tender due to its age. 95 x 95cm. Later Turkish towel with pink and pale green stylised flower heads is in good condition. The embroidery is unfaded. There are a few rust stains. 25cms wide x 190cms long (borders 30cms. deep) The wide fine muslin with stripes and large pineapple stylised symbols and leaves has much damage to the main body of the muslin and has darns in the embroidered borders. The embroidery is faded in places. 148cms. long x 82cms. wide (border 18cms. deep) The pale blue/biege/white embroidered panel has a large hole and has been cut one side and makes it narrower. There are stains and two small holes. The embroidery is faded. 47cms. wide x 80cms. long. The larger fringed hanging is joined down the centre. The fabric and embroidery are robust. 76cms. long x 23cms. wide. The smaller fringed hanging is in two sections. One section is stained. 46cms. long x 20cms. wide The three purple, pale blue and ochre cross-stitch panels are faded and the fabric is holed in places. Blue 50cms. wide, purple 70cms. wide, ochre 92cms. wide. The woven mitten has general staining but the woven fabric is strong and undamaged. 24cms. high x 13cms wide. Later, smaller towel with stylistic tree designed embroidery has slight damage to one border end and three stains to main part of fabric near the centre. The embroidery has faded. 40cms. wide x 77cms. long (border 8cms. deep)
