Edo Period, 19th Century Each with a dense nashiji ground embellished with gold and silver foil, hiramakie, takamakie, hirame, kinji and fundame, the suzuribako with a flush-fitting lid with rounded edges and corners and decorated with rustic dwellings and distant temple buildings shaded by pines and cherry trees in full bloom in a mountainous landscape permeated by bands of mist, the underside of the cover decorated with leafy maple trees repeated on the removable interior tray fitted with a silver water dropper (suiteki) cast and carved as a butterfly and a rectangular slate inkstone with fundame lacquered edges; the top surface of the bundai decorated en suite with a waterfall and stream cascading through the spring landscape, while maples adorn the four low cuspate legs, the silver fittings chased and carved with maple leaves, the underside finished in nashiji; together with fitted black lacquer storage boxes inscribed in gold lacquer Yoshino roden (waterfall and fields of Yoshino) makie, kin nashiji on-bundai suzuri and Yoshino roden makie, kin nashiji on-bundai respectively.
