Lot Description: A Fine Early 19th Century Ivory and Gilt Metal French Étui formed as an egg, possibly Palais Royale, the inside fitted with a chased silver-gilt panel to hold, from the rear, an ivory aide memoire/carnet de bal opening as a fan; a pencil; a stiletto and a bodkin; a thimble, a minute penknife; a tiny pair of scissors with circular handles, and a tiny ruby glass bottle with hinged lid, most likely to contain water used for sprinkling on fabric being worked. Contained in a heavy French etched glass and gold metal carrying case with front opening. Height of egg approx. 2.3/8 inches or 6cm. Condition Report: . Very good, slight colour change to the ivory, slightly darker towards the base. Labels still present from previous sellers, both describing the item as early 19th century, one adding gilt metal, the most recent giving the price being asked as £1200. ARR: Categories: Fans
