A fine Collection of Medals to the Sherwood Foresters A Great War M.M. pair awarded to Private A. Marshall, 1st Battalion Nottinghamshire & Derbyshire Regiment, killed in action, France/Flanders, 31 July 1917 Military Medal, G.V.R. (10398 Pte., 1/N. & D.R.); British War Medal 1914-20 (10398 Pte., Notts. & Derby. R.) first with edge bruise, nearly very fine and better (2) £280-320 Footnote M.M. London Gazette 14 September 1916. Albert Marshall was born in and enlisted at Nottingham and lived in Carter Gate, Nottingham. Serving in the 1st Battalion Nottinghamshire & Derbyshire Regiment, he entered the France/Flanders theatre of war on 4 November 1914. He was killed in action on 31 July 1917 during the Third Battle of Ypres. Having no known grave, his name is commemorated on the Ypres (Menin Gate) Memorial. Aged 31 years at the time of his death. Albert Marshall was the son of William Marshall of 7 Carter Place, Carter Gate, Nottingham. With copied research.
