A Fine Collection of Awards to the Canadian Forces Six: Private W. J. B. Ruttan, Loyal Edmonton Regiment, who was killed in action at the battle of Ortona on 10 December 1943 1939-45 Star; Italy Star; Defence Medal 1939-45, silver; Canadian Voluntary Service Medal 1939-45, with overseas clasp; War Medal 1939-45, silver, in their card boxes of issue, together with his Canadian Memorial Cross, G.VI.R., the reverse officially inscribed, ‘M.56754 Pte. W. J. B. Ruttan’, ring suspension, in case of issue (lacking interior pad), extremely fine (6) £140-180 Footnote Wilmot James Bennet Ruttan was born in Elstow, Saskatchewan, on 23 August 1909. A Carpenter by occupation, he attested for the Army at Edmonton, Alberta, in February 1942, and originally posted to the Calgary Highlanders. Subsequently transferring to Loyal Edmonton Regiment, he was embarked for England in June 1942 and then sailed with his unit to Italy in June 1943. Killed in action during the battle of Ortona on 10 December 1943, he was buried in the Moro River Cemetery, Ortona, Italy. He was the son of Charles W. and Henrietta G. Ruttan, of 81st Street, Edmonton; sold with copied service papers and other references.
