A FINE CASED PAIR OF BOHEMIAN 28-BORE PERCUSSION TARGET DUELLING PISTOLS BY F. NOWAK IN PRAG, CIRCA 1850 With fine etched twist octagonal rifled sighted barrels each with gold-inlaid lines and the muzzle and breech and signed in gold towards the breech, finely border and scroll engraved patent breeches each carved with symmetrical fences and with pierced platinum plug, long tangs and back-action locks engraved en suite, the former each incorporating an adjustable rear-sight and with gold-inlaid shield and respectively numbered '1' and '2', the latter each with gold-inlaid signature (one hammer replaced), set triggers, well figured walnut half-stocks each carved in relief with foliage on the fore-end and in low relief surrounding chequered panels on the butt, mounts engraved en suite including flat-fronted spurred trigger-guards and side-plates symmetrical to the locks and each signed 'IN PRAG' in gold, and engraved white metal barrel-bolt escutcheons, in original fitted veneered case lined in crimson velvet and containing most of the original accessories including bullet-mould and circular powder-flask with ivory spout and bone panels carved with a stag on one side and a hunting scene on the other, the exterior with shaped brass escutcheon engraved with a crowned monogram, and with original leather outer (outer worn, some wear to case lining and partitions, compartment lid missing, some minor surface corrosion to pistols) 11 5/8in. (29.5cm.) barrels
